This is the last Twitter Tuesday blog post for this course! Time flew by so fast. I can’t believe that we are reaching the end of the quarter. For this very last one, I chose five interesting things I learned in Writing 60 and made 5 tweets about them. The five things I chose are problems the coyotes face, not feeding coyotes, peer review, Scicomm writing, and birds’ intelligence. I chose them because they are all new things to me. I never knew that birds are capable of solving complex problems, coyotes are facing that much hatred from humans, and feeding coyotes would cause more human-coyote conflicts. I learned the importance of peer review for the first time in this class. We did some peer reviews in high school but nobody actually cared about it. We simply gave each other a thumbs-up and moved on. In this course, I first time carefully read my classmates’ writings and gave them my suggestions with my best effort. I found out that I learned a lot by reading their articles, like the format they use, types of examples, website design and so much more! Additionally, I receive valuable feedback from my classmates, too. They are very responsible and helpful. I really appreciate them and this opportunity!
I also commented on five of my classmates’ tweets using the hashtags “UCanimals” and “WhatIlearnedinWR60”. The most interesting thing I learned is we can reduce human-crow conflicts by giving them conservation areas. This information is shared by Ava. I thought crows don’t need conservation areas since they are all around the cities. Because of this, human-crow conflicts are happening all the time. They don’t get a conservation area so they have to go to cities to seek food which increases the risk of conflicts. If they are granted a territory, they would not have to come to the cities and we would not be affected by them. To be honest, the crow calls are driving me crazy every Sunday morning and it is the only day I get to sleep in:( Therefore, I strongly agree with the idea of giving them a conservation area.
The last thing I did this week on Twitter was follow 5 medical-related accounts. The accounts I followed are Harvard Health, Medical Xpress, AMA, The BMJ, and NEJM. My future plan is to go to medical school and become a primary care provider. This is the plan for now but I don’t know if I can make it to medical school since they are all very selective. All these accounts post many useful facts and research articles in the medical field and I enjoy learning them! I found them simply by searching the keyword “medical”.
In the end, I want to say that I really enjoyed this course even though we had a lot of assignments each week. But how can we get better at writing without practicing it? All the assignments we did throughout the course were very meaningful and helpful in my journey to becoming a better writer. Twitter Tuesday is a very creative way to practice our writing and researching skills. Thank you, Dr. Haas!
